The new credit card radio frequency identification chip is a double edge sword with benefits and risks. (by John F. Cruz)
I recently interviewed a small mobile phone shop owner. He reported while he was traveling someone used a hand scanner to scan and access his bank information off his credit card RFID. He lost all the money in that account. The police reported to him this is a growing crime. However this crime is difficult to trace.
Thieves use a hand scanner and walk in crowds while they pass the scanner near your pockets or purse. In seconds, your bank account info is scanned and recorded without your knowledge.
How can you protect yourself? I proposed a shielded phone case with shielded card holder. This makes unauthorized scanning impossible. And you simply pull out your card when you are ready to use.
The new Cruz Cases known for offering maximum protection to block the microwave radio signals directed toward your brain now also uses a material that blocks the RFID scanning when the credit card is inserted in the Cruz Case card holder.
